It has been a super busy late fall both around the office and out in the field. Here is your December newsletter to catch you up on everything we have been up to, and what we've got coming up. Happy holidays from Circus Orange!

NEW YEARS EVE - December 31st, 2012 - City of Brampton
We are proud to be representing the City of Brampton for their New Years Eve show again this year. Circus Orange will be providing all the fireworks and pyrotechnic effects by staging two unique pyromusical shows.

The first show will be at 9:00pm and will be fired from the rooftop of City Hall. The second show will be right at midnight and fired from the rooftop of the Rose Theatre.

This is a free, family oriented event with a lot of other entertainment and well worth a trip to Brampton!

ILLUMINITE - November 10th, 2012
Back at the beginning of November we had the oportunity of creating a custom holiday tree lighting pyro performance for Illuminite at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto. Although we have created a new show for this event every year for the past five years it is always a unique and fun challange for us. Yonge-Dundas Square is the "Times Square of Toronto" and we are competing for eyeballs with literally millions of blazing pixels on the many big-screen advertisements down there.

Through experience we have found that our unique European style street theatre show works incredibly well at grabbing an audience's attention and focusing them away from the distractions of every day life. How did we do this? Well, the show we staged for this event took place on unconventional sites around the square. We created stages on the security building rooftop, the canopy roof at the north side of the square, our custom hydraulic lift stage and even suspended beneath a huge industrial crane! We placed performers such as our theatrical stilt walkers right in the crowd. We had fire performers on rolling cart structures and suspended right over the crowd as well. Next we layered on storyline, character, a unique soundtrack and pyrotechnic effects to create a complete immersion experience for our audience.

GOOGLE RIBBON RIGGING- Nov 13th, 2012
The rigging team at Circus Orange had their work cut out for them for the grand opening of the new Google building at 111 Richmond St. W. in Toronto. Google decided that they wanted to wrap their entire building up like a present with a 250 foot long ribbon complete with a 20 foot high bow above the doorway. Who on earth could complete such a Herculean rigging job? Well, Circus Orange of course!

Our trusty riggers worked through the night and when the sun came up on November 13th, 2012 there was a giant white Google branded ribbon encircling the building for the world to marvel at. The really cool thing (that no one could see) was that we actually did the whole job using the IRATA two rope technique so no lifts had to be rented and the sidewalk was never completely closed during the installation. The whole job was done by riggers on ropes!

THE CAVALCADE OF LIGHTS- Nov 17th, 2012
Another awesome yearly event for us is the Cavalcade of Lights produced by Toronto Special Events. This event is a terrific way to introduce the holiday season and probably the largest urban fireworks and pyrotechnic event in the country. The two towers of City Hall and the podium roof become our canvas as we create a dazzling show with up to 12,000 pieces of brightly coloured exploding pyrotechnics firing up to 300 feet in the air during this eight-minute long show. It is a spectacular experience for the audience as they are standing right under the effects as they shoot skyward.

This year was particularly exciting as we got to utilize the Ziptrek zipline for a custom pyro gag. About three minutes into the show we sent two of our experienced stunt performers down the zipline with custom built pyro backpacks. The audience erupted when they saw that there were performers strapped inside this blazing rocketlike effect. It was a great example of how pyro WITH performers really affects an audience.

Another highlight of the night was when we got to stage an eight-minute long pyro dance and acrobatic performance on the rooftop of the brand new ice skating building. The audience was mesmerized below as we performed with flames, pyro and dramatic choreography on the roof above them. For the climax of this show we lowered one of our fire performers in from the zip line rigging overhead. Perfect! Thanks to Ziptrek for letting us play on their zip line and to Toronto Special Events for a truly great event.

LOTS OF PERFORMER FLYING EFFECTS GOING ON
ASTRO KIK	USS FLY GAG
Our rigging team recently did all the flying and wire work for the Astro Kik commercial for Much Music. This commercial was a lot of fun to do as it involved one of our very favourite things to do - making people fly through the air! This commercial was just released and can be viewed here.	On December 8th our rigging team had the opportunity to fly Ash Boo-Schultz and Human Kebab from the band USS . This was a super-fun flying sequence where the two descended from the heavens for the opening of their sold out show at the Sound Academy in Toronto. View the Video Blog shot at this show here.
