SKYY VODKA - GIANT MARTINI GLASS CRANE STUNT
THE PROJECT:
In 2011 during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Skyy Vodka wanted to make a big scene so they came to Circus Orange for some help. The concept was to create an “impromptu” street happening that would garner a lot of media attention and reinforce the unique Skyy Vodka brand. In this age of media oversaturation it has become more difficult for products and companies to stand out in the crowd so they must think differently if they are to succeed. This is exactly where we can help!
For Skyy Vodka we organized a street closure in the heart of the entertainment district and set up a large industrial crane. In our shop facility we had fabricated an 18’ high steel martini glass, painted it Skyy blue and made it self-illuminating for the night time performance. With our performance team we perfected a five-minute long aerial show on and around this custom aerial apparatus. To top it all off our FX team incorporated pyrotechnics and atmospheric effects to be fired from the custom spreader bar supporting the aerial act.
PROJECT RECAP:
The project went off without a hitch. A huge crowd gathered at the intersection of King & Widmer Streets on the opening night of TIFF to witness this impromptu street spectacle. “Somehow” the media got wind of the event and the show went viral. It was featured in many papers but the media highlight had to be the large picture that played prominently on the cover of the Toronto Metro, which has a circulation of over 320,000!
